FILSU NHQS CONSTITUTES STUDENT MOBILISATION COMMITTEE AHEAD OF 2027 GENERAL ELECTIONS, TARGETS OVER 30,000 IWOLAND VOTERS

The Federation of Iwoland Students' Union (FILSU), through its Students' Legislative Council (SLC), has constituted an Election Mobilisation Committee ahead of the 2027 General Elections, with a target of mobilising over 30,000 Iwoland students across tertiary institutions in Nigeria to participate in the electoral process.

The initiative forms part of the Union's efforts to promote civic participation among students of Iwoland origin, encourage voter registration, strengthen electoral awareness, and ensure eligible students exercise their voting rights during the forthcoming elections.

According to a memorandum issued by the Office of the Speaker, Students' Legislative Council, dated October 31, 2026, and signed by Rt. Hon. Ademola Stephen Babalola, the committee was established to coordinate student mobilisation ahead of the Presidential and National Assembly elections, including the State Election, scheduled for January 16 and February 6, 2027.

The committee is chaired by the Speaker of the Union, Rt. Hon. Ademola Stephen Babalola, who will oversee its activities and coordination across the various institutions and geographical zones. Other members of the committee include:

- Co-Chairman: Comr. Ibraheem Adijat Morayo – Federal College of Education, Iwo.

- General Secretary: Comr. Tadese Adams Adewale – Kwara State University, Malete.

- Director of Publicity: Comr. Tiamiyu Quadri Anuoluwapo – UMCOED.

- North Central Coordinator: Comr. Rasheed Mustopha Olamide – Federal University, Lafia.

- North West Coordinator: Comr. Isiaka Yakub Olalekan – Ahmadu Bello University.

- South West Coordinator: Hon. Comr. Bakare Abdullateef A. – Osun State University.

- Member: Comr. Adiat Abdulqoyum Olamide – Osun State University.

- Member: Hon. Muraina Barokat Boluwatife – Osun State University.

The composition reflects the Union's intention to establish a coordinated mobilisation structure that reaches students across different institutions, chapters, and geographical zones. The committee is mandated to mobilise Iwoland students across their respective institutions and chapters, with particular attention to ensuring that every eligible student is registered, possesses a Permanent Voter's Card (PVC), and participates in the forthcoming elections.

Its responsibilities include engaging students, Chapter Presidents, and chapter executives across institutions and zones; publicising the elections and providing information on the necessary steps for participation; collecting mobilisation data through an official Google Form; and submitting periodic progress reports to the Office of the Speaker.

To facilitate this process, an official registration form will be circulated through the Union's communication channels. Honourable Members have also been directed to ensure that the form reaches the chapters and constituencies they represent while encouraging accurate and timely submissions.

The memorandum further clarifies that the Election Mobilisation Committee is strictly a non-partisan body established solely for voter mobilisation and civic participation. The committee will neither act on behalf of nor replace the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), and it will not campaign for any political party or candidate. This position establishes the committee's focus on voter education, electoral awareness, and encouraging eligible students to participate independently in the democratic process.

The Office of the Speaker has called on all Honourable Members of the Students' Legislative Council to give the committee the necessary cooperation and support, particularly in ensuring that students across their respective institutions and chapters are reached. The Union also looks forward to the active participation of Chapter Presidents, student representatives, and Iwoland students across tertiary institutions nationwide in achieving the mobilisation target.

With the 2027 General Elections approaching, the initiative represents FILSU's organised effort to extend its engagement beyond campus representation and encourage greater civic participation among the student population of Iwoland.

Through the Election Mobilisation Committee, FILSU seeks to build a coordinated network of informed and participating student voters, reinforcing the importance of electoral responsibility and active citizenship among young people.
