BEING THE INAUGURAL TEXT DELIVERED BY COMR. LATEEF, SODIQ ADEWALE (PRUDENCE), THE SUG PRESIDENT OF OSUN STATE COLLEGE OF TECHNOLOGY, ESA OKE AT THE INAUGURATION CEREMONY HELD ON OCTOBER 31ST, 2023.

PROTOCOL

The Rector, Dr. S. A. O. Adegoke,

Deputy Rector,

Dean of Student Affairs,

Directors of Programmes,

All the Faculty Deans and Departmental HODs on the seat,

Chairman and Members of Independent Students Electoral Committee,

Immediate Past President and his Executive

Immediate Past Senate President and the Senators,

Fellow Just Inaugurated Executive,

Senate President and the SRC Members,

Distinguish Men of the Press,

Security Personnel,

And Good Looking Nigerian Students;

1. It remains such a great privilege to stand before you as the SUG President of this great Institution, OSCOTECH. Several activities precede this day, starting from the consultations down to the voting at the poll, it was such a privilege I cannot appreciate enough bestowed on me

2. Today, being sworn in as the SUG President is marking the beginning of another atmosphere of administration and a journey through and to success.

3. While I appreciate everyone involved in the proceedings of this struggle so far, most especially the executive body, as earlier published in my appreciation immediately after the election, I am also charging you this day regarding the task ahead, it is a great responsibility mounting on our shoulders today, and the welfare of over 5,000 Nigerian Students lapse on us. It is therefore expected of us all, to be fair, and courteous, and to take the privileges bestowed on us as a responsibility.

4. Beyond the Oath of Office we all took today, lies the trust, belief, and faith of the thousands of students who gave us their mandates, we should not fail them, and we will not fail them.

5. As part of our electoral promises, this administration will be mounting on the diplomatic relationships sustained by past administrations, most especially the just concluded one led by Hon. Comr. Oyekanmi Bankole Isaac FEMCATH. We believe they have put their best interest in sustaining these partnerships and relationships with the School Management, Government Agencies, Community and Religious Leaders, Public Figures, Philanthropist, Past Leaders, Stakeholders, ALUMNI, student bodies, and many other external organizations, we will ensure to continue from where they have stopped and ensure continuity which in our belief will be to the best interest of the Nigerian Students.

6. In lieu of the above, We have noticed over time that the school management doesn’t normally involve the students union involved in decision making which in our thinking is causing great loopholes and gaps between the student body and the school management, and this always renders the student union irrelevant and incapable in the sight of the students we are representing. We hope a lasting solution will be effected to this with effect from now

7. Still fostering a relationship with the school management, we implore the rector to organize interactive sessions with the students at the very least twice every semester. This we believe will foster a more cordial relationship and also denote the Rector's acceptance by the Student community is inarguable.

8. As part of our efforts to foster relationships with our immediate community, we are considering holding a cultural program that will be in partnership with our immediate community, and therefore have in attendance the community leaders of Esa Oke and people in diaspora but within the frame of Osun State. This we see not only aids the nobility of the Institution, but also showcases our contribution to enhance the cultural wealth of our immediate community, and Osun State in extension.

9. Considering the economic state of our country at this crucial time, the impact of the naira crunch is still very much affecting the economic space, the depreciation of the Naira to the Dollar is daily increasing, and all this is affecting our students in one way or the other. It is on this note that we are writing the State Government through the School Management and also the School Management itself to consider a reduction of the Academic Fees payable for this Academic Year. While we are very much aware of the fact that the above factors are also affecting the activities of the Institution's finances, we implore the State Government to look keenly to investing more in the Educational sector and increase the remuneration dedicated to its finances.

10. As an institution vast in technological knowledge, it is our plead that the School Management will help dedicate more focus to practical knowledge and ensure there is a great increase therein. It has been reported over the past few years how there has been the unavailability of some key equipment for sustainable practical knowledge, the ineffectiveness of some machines in the laboratories, and keeping most of the lab apparatus from being used even during practical, we deeply hope this will change with time, so that our students may be rated better among their peers at the labor market which will, in turn, bring more credibility for the Institution.

11. We appreciate the School Management for their efforts so far concerning the WiFi at the ICT, however, it is saddening to state that most students are not enjoying these privileges enough, we can even say only a few students, not up to ten percentage of our students are even enjoying this at all. We, therefore plead with the School Management to install more WiFi for access around the school environment. In our recommendation, we implore that every department should have at least one installed for them while a conventional mega WiFi will be installed at the Senate Building for access to the students around. Other critical places we request WiFi installations are the SUG Building and Entrepreneurship Center.

12. We believe that the last two administrations emphasized the Issues of Entrepreneur Certificates. While we hope the school management is working towards ensuring this is carried out, we are using this medium to bring to your remembrance how important this proficiency and skill certificate is in the life of the students. We want to plead that the school management ensure this is actualized during this academic year, as we are tagging this as part of the keynote achievement this administration will be backing on while handing over the union administration to another person pilot.

13. To aid the academic activities on campus and reduce the stresses for both the students and our distinguished lecturers, we are recommending making the general courses online through e-courses. This might be done through the usage of pre-recorded classes using any online platform. With this, the students will be introduced to digital learning which is gradually taking over time.

14. We are using this medium to solicit Food Palliative from the School Management as the academic session continues, this is to aid the students who might be in dire need as this contributes to their well-being.

15. That being said, during the last administrative sessions, a lot of sentiments were raised due to the ineffective operation of the Health Care not being up to standard, which has led to the loss of lives of some of our students. In lieu of this, we are imploring the school management to increase their attention to the health clinic and make availability of stable health care on campus, which will at least serve as first aides for any students who may be facing any health challenges before being transferred to any alternative health care center.

16. In our quest to ensure the academic excellence of our students, this administration under my leadership will be working with different associations, organizations, as well as agencies to facilitate sponsorships, scholarships, and academic grants for our students, we hope the school management will aides us on the quest.

17. Concerning the above, most of the scholarship opportunities do request Academic Transcript or Results of the Students, due to the delays in releasing the semestrial results however, many opportunities have been lost for our students, we, therefore plead that the results of our students will be faster than ever before so that the students will be able to apply for any opportunities that might come in time. Also, we are requesting that the school beat down the prices for Academic transcripts for our students, most students applying for scholarships were requested to provide this, but the cost of requesting this transcript has been so enormous, that we therefore request a review of it.

18. Before I end my speech, in honor, respect, and remembrance of the Late Registrar who passed on to glory, I seek the indulgence of everyone on the seat to be on a standing ovation as a symbol of respect to his honor...... May he continue resting in perfect peace.

19. We are using this medium to affirm our commitment to the oath of office we have received, ensuring we delivered tentatively the mandate and trust bestowed on us, we will not fail you.

20. Thank you for your keen attention and listening. To better administrative ahead, cheers.
